Black History Month
Throughout February Lincoln City will pay tribute to African-Americans, their rich cultural heritage and their significant contribution to this great nation. February has been named ‘Black History Month’. More especially, Lincoln City will acknowledge and honor the role of African-Americans in building Oregon long before the arrival of the wagon trains with their baggage of fortune-seeking settlers. Lincoln City ensures that this circumvented contribution is rightfully acknowledged, and that African-Americans will have their rightful place with the pioneers who built what is now one of the Pacific Northwest’s most vibrant communities. The Oregon Northwest Black Pioneers will give an hour-long free presentation at 1 PM on Saturday, February 25 which will shed light on the history of the African Americans in the Willamette Valley.
It’s also an opportunity to see ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ which will be showing at 11 AM the same day at the Bijou Theatre. This great movie of yesteryear which won 3 Oscars starred Gregory Peck in the lead role. Harper Lee, the author of the book from which the movie was made was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for this timeless historical classic.
